I am currently a boy mom waiting on baby number three to be done cooking within the next ten weeks or so. It’s no secret that I love being a mom and that my husband and I want a large family. We were over the moon when we found out our first baby was a boy and when we found out I was pregnant with our second baby we crossed our fingers and got another boy again. Excited to have two boys would be a huge understatement.
After we saw the stick read a positive with baby number three, we agreed we wouldn’t find out the gender for a few reasons:
1. I LOVE SURPRISES. Seriously…they’re my favorite thing next to Jesus, coffee, and a run in the most perfect weather.
2. We don’t think we’ll be done having kids just yet, but if God has different plans for us, I have always wanted to wait until the birth to find out the gender.
3. It’s more exciting! Definitely not an easy thing to do, but the anticipation is so much fun.
Not finding out the gender isn’t just difficult for us, however. It’s hard for everyone who knows I’m pregnant. From grandparents all the way to the random lady in the grocery store, everyone wants to know. I love how excited everyone is for this baby and it makes me feel so incredibly loved! One thing though… No, we aren’t done if it’s a girl.
Here’s the thing: The gender of this baby is not at all what would help us to determine if we are going to be done having kids. Yes, we do want a girl some day and will be SO excited if this baby is in fact our first daughter, But…we’ll be just as excited if this baby is a boy. Like I said before, we don’t think we’ll be done having kids after this baby BUT if we are and it’s a healthy baby, we’re okay with that. If this baby is a girl, I can’t tell you how excited I will be to meet my daughter and have a relationship (hopefully) with her like I do with my own mom.
The truth is though, if God wants us to have 5 kids and gives me all healthy, amazing boys, I’m thankful. So when we get the questions like, “Hoping it’s a girl?” or “You guys going to be done if it’s a girl?” or even like the random lady at the grocery store, “Oh boy, mama. I sure hope you’re having a girl to break up that chaos,” while my boys were quiet and well behaved in the cart, I simply will smile and say this:
I would LOVE a little girl, but I’m so thankful for any baby that God gives us. If this baby is a boy, I’ll be happy to add to what that woman commented as “chaos,” but if this baby is a girl, I’ll be happy to add a little bit of something different to the chaos. Our life IS chaos, but I can’t explain how much I love it and I’m so excited to see what God has in store for us.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Christ in chaos is just how our family functions and whether or not a boy or girl baby is added to it, I can’t even explain how excited I am for this baby!
Just for fun, comment below your guess on the gender of this baby! I can honestly say…It changes for me daily!
